Spider-Man: No Way Home - title teaser analysis

Updated: Jul 14, 2021

After posting three different movie titles, lead actors Tom Holland, Zendaya Coleman and Jacob Batalon shared a clip of them together, walking through what looked like a school corridor, discussing why they weren't trusted with the 'real' movie title. As they walk out of shot, we see written on a whiteboard "Spider-Man: No Way Home".

I'll just be posting a quick analysis on this one, as we don't have too much information to go off of yet...

At first glance, it seems as though it's just just a mock-up of an ideas page (a spider diagram, if you will), but upon closer inspection, there may be subtle hints to something deeper.

The first thing I recognised, was the 4D shape drawn top-middle of the board. A 4D square is called a tesseract; we know the tesseract houses the space stone, and due to events in Avengers: Endgame, Loki now has the tesseract in an alternative timeline.

The space stone allows for teleportation through the universe... could this include the multiverse? Ultimate mastery of the stone, when used with the others, allows for omnipresence, existing in all places of the universe at once. Could this include parallel existence?

Conveniently, the same day as Spider-Man's title was released, Disney announced that the Loki tv-show would debut on 11th of June. Could this be preparing us for Spider-Man: No Way Home, due to be released in December?

Another thing to note, are the elements grouped in threes. Could this represent the three Spider-Men, Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield? This can be seen in the triangle linked at the top (middle-right), the three circles with dots towards the bottom (middle), and the dots and lines within the hexagons.

A theory I absolutely adore is the idea that the shape around "Spider-Man: No Way Home", is drawn to represent Puerto Rico, potentially to reference Miles Morales' mother's roots.

Some super smart people recognised the compounds illustrated as those with the same formula used for Spider-Man's webs. However, with this teaser released as we head towards WandaVision's finale, I can't help but feel the hexagons, or rather, the importance of six is being heavily implied. Not only are there six infinity stones, but the villains rumoured for Spider-Man: No Way Home include the Sinister Six.

The original Sinister Six include villains we've already seen; Mysterio and Vulture (Tom Holland's Spider-Man), Doctor Octopus and Sandman (Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man), and Electro (Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man). This leaves us with only one character we haven't met, Kraven the Hunter. However, with the upcoming Morbius movie, could this character be seen instead? Or perhaps a Hobgoblin or Green Goblin appearance, as Ned is rumoured to be led astray in the third film.

Further supporting this idea, are the colours used in the 'fake' movie titles.

In the comics, Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro and Green Goblin are all depicted with green tones, Sandman with green and yellow. However, Michael Keaton's Vulture may be represented by the metallic sheen of 'Home-Wrecker', as in Spider-Man: Homecoming, his costume was far more grey (this may also apply to Doctor Octopus and his crazy robo-arms). Vulture is to appear in the upcoming Morbius film, so perhaps the grey and red combination could represent this pair. Finally, the red/purple and gold shown in 'Home Slice' may hint towards Mysterio; though green in the comics, Mysterio's costume in Spider-Man: Far From Home included gold armour and a maroon cape, directly correlating to the colours above.

A fun concept to consider is how the titles may relate to each Spider-Man: Home Slice, as Tobey Maguire's character delivered pizza, Home-Wrecker, as Andrew Garfield's character wrecked Gwen Stacey's family, and Phone Home, perhaps as Tom Holland's character was led by Skrull impersonators in his last film.

Home Worlds was a popular fan theory, especially in regards to the multiverse. However, that name also relates to other things in the Marvel Universe. Homeworld is a molecular chain planet in a dimension known as the microverse, (information found here), which sounds like something Ant-Man could definitely explore. Additionally, there is another planet named Homeworld, found here, which features the first appearance of Gamora in the comics, and includes fighting for the Soul Stone.
